Our Fall CS Rendezvous was a great success.

The weather window cooperated beautifully, not too hot or too cold and just some rain during the night.
30 CS members showed up, including 4 couples who drove to the rendezvous.
Making the cruise were C'est la Vie, Heron, My Fair Lady, Musashi, Inishmoor, Kewao, Juno II, Verdia II, Sante, Sloop Therapy and Rosmond.

Recap -  CS Fall Rendezvous at Ladysmith Community Marina
Sept. 5 - 7, 2018

Mike and Heather left Blue Heron at home and drove down from Brentwood since Mike was recovering from a serious leg problem.  Gerard and Deirdre (Child of Midnight) and Len and Yvonne (Minnedosa) also drove down.  John and Sylvia also drove down from Nanaimo.  They are the former owners of Deckadance, now renamed C'est la Vie by Judy and Cliff.

Prize for the shortest distance travelled by boat went to Jeff and Maria who cruised all the way from their slip 50 yards away to join the rest of us moored at the next dock!  A highlight was the addition of new, young members on Juno II to our group!

Here's a recap of the rendezvous.

Field Trip Wed Afternoon
C'est la Vie arrived around noon to find most of the other boats already there.  We had both sides of the main dock for our group.  First item on the printed agenda was a tour led by Gerard  to the Waterfront Gallery and Ladysmith Maritime Museum located up the hill from the marina.

5:30 Happy Hour on the Dock
Happy Hour was held under the big canopy beside the marina office.  Time to renew friendships and find out where everyone had cruised this summer.  A highlight was welcoming new  (young) members, Byron and Meghan to the club.  They own Juno II, a CS 33.  Byron even brought a copy of Ray Wall's CS 33 plans which we will post on this website.

Thursday Morning Tai Chi

Nothing like Tai Chi to get the body and soul limbered up!  Jeff and Maria, our tai chi experts, led us through our paces accompanied by soothing music.  Not as easy as it looks.  Concentrate!

Guided Tour of Ladysmith

There is more to the town of Ladysmith than meets the eye.  Gerard and Deirdre led us on an informative walking tour of the main street.  It looks like a Hollywood set with its historic buildings, and sure enough, many of the buildings were being remodeled for the upcoming Jim Carrey movie, Sonic the Hedgehog.

At the Antique Store - Photo by Heather

The tour included a lunch stop at Appetit For Thought.  This is a small funky restaurant where Martin, the owner, cooks excellent food right in front of you on a regular stove and a pizza oven.  Very friendly service too.  Just read all the rave reviews here.  Inside restaurant photos by Heather and Mike.
A little movie.

The Ron Drain Bocce Tournament

If you read some of the archived Events on this website you may come across previous CS Bocce tournaments.

One of our members, Henry, has even written a blog on this website devoted to the finer points of bocce.

Winners this year were Ken and Cathy.
Trophy awarded by Craig and Jeff,  winners of the National Bocce Tournament at 2018 Spring Rendezvous held in Pt. Browning.

Tech Talk

Tech Talk was led by Mike.  The beautiful gleaming paint job on Juno II's stern led to our first discussion about various waxes and other polishers.  The second topic was the Torqeedo electric motor that Bob and Kathie had bought for their dinghy.  It was equivalent to a 3 hp outboard and was very light, quiet, and cleaner.

Supper BBQ and Potluck

Our usual BBQ and potluck under the pavilion meant that there was no shortage of food!  The guys did their grilling thing poking and turning over their protein until done to perfection or "can't wait any longer".  No photos because the writer was too busy cooking and eating.

Left-Right-Centre Game or as we have renamed it:  Port, Starboard and Lost at Sea

A legacy from former members Rich and Becky, this game is a CS tradition now often played after dinner.    Yes, you can buy it at a games store.  The prize pot was considerably sweetened with a bottle of amber liquid along with the pot of quarters that were lost at sea.  A roll of 3 wild card dice paved the way for Gerard's win.  Congrats!

Friday Farewell Breaky - and a surprise.

Time to say "See You Again!"  But not before one last get together for goodies.  Heather and Mike brought out a delicious spread of croissants, deli meats, cinnamon buns, fruit drinks, and even lox!

Surprise Breakfast Visitors

Unexpectedly joining us for breakfast was another young couple who had been searching for our CS group.  Ricky and Jessica have recently bought a CS 36T (Fainleog) from one of our former members.  They were in Nanaimo getting the boat ready to go blue water cruising.

Ricky said that he found our CS Yachts West website and read about our Ladysmith Rendezvous.  The couple decided at the last minute to drive down to meet our CS group.

One Last Presentation

Thanks to Craig for arranging to present one of our CS Yachts West burgees to the Ladysmith Community Marina for display.  Good idea Kathy for getting a brand new to one to give away!  Note that several of the attendees  had to be on their way early so they are not in the photo below.
