Thirteen boats showed up at Telegraph Harbour for our Fall Rendezvous.  The weather cooperated beautifully, cooling down for the rendezvous after a spell of hot weather.

Here are some of the highlights.

Happy Hour
The waterside deck was the site of our first get together with everyone bringing an appy to share with the hornets.  As usual, this was time to catch up on everyone's news, sailing and otherwise.

Wednesday breakfast
The CS Executive supposedly puts on this breaky but in fact it has a lot of additional help from other CS members. It is not an easy job to keep the hungry crowd well fed.  With   assembly line efficiency  Lynne and Becky scrambled 5 dozen eggs and Jeff and Maria showed artistic skill in pouring the pancake batter using the custom made *dispensers.

(*You too can make your very own dispenser with a 2 litre milk jug (empty) and a 1/8" drill bit to make the hole!)

Tai Chi
For two morning sessions Jeff and Maria led us in tai chi.  What a peaceful way to exercise with the music, the surroundings, the gentle coaching and flowing movements.  Well, maybe some of us were teetering on the balancing moves but overall we looked like a wave in motion.

Tech Session
Mike led a lively tech session under the pavilion.  He started off by asking  members to think about improvements they would still like to make on their boats.  Wish lists included repowering in order to get cruise over 5 kts, solving a squeeky shower grate, replacing life lines, adding solar panels, and finding effective boat cleaners. Everyone had a chance to contribute their ideas.  To be continued at the next rendezvous?

Sing-Along -  see video by Jeff
Canadian and American standards plus a few from the 4 lads from Liverpool made up the song books compiled by the organizers.  Cliff on guitar, Judy on ukelele, Sue on harmonica and a tambourine passed around provided the instrumentals for the singers.   We all might have had a bit of a shaky start but as we worked our way through the songs, everyone's enthusiasm grew and so did the volume.  The sing-along ended with a special song - Happy Birthday to Sue.

Bocce Tournament
With defending champs Mike and Heather absent to defend their title, that meant that the trophy was up for grabs.  The finals came down to Team Wageman vs Team Thompson.  Kathie won the opening throw by beating Becky with a skillful "paper beats rock" maneuver.  Then match began with first to get to 6 pts declared the winner.

Barbecue Potluck Supper
The potluck supper has always meant lots of delicious food. Some years the barbecue is so smoky you can hardly make out the cooks.  This year the smoke came from the distant forest fires which made for an eerie reddish sun in the morning.

Sue, the Birthday Girl
An amazing CS member, Sue single hands her Quanta 28 from Port Townsend, WA.  Thank you for being such a great role model!

The Raffle
Thank you to Yvonne for getting the prizes and conducting the draw.  She held a vote to see if we wanted to play the "I'll take your prize" version of the game.  And we did, with lucky ticket holders getting to choose from the prize table or taking someone else's prize.

Left - Right - Centre had co-winners
Becky and Rich introduced us to this game last year and it looks like it will be a rendezvous tradition.  This year the game had an odd ending as the winner was not only absent to collect his winnings, but he wasn't even around to play his last few winning turns.  As the wind was starting to blow, Cliff had excused himself to tend to C'est la Vie.  He didn't have any quarters left anyways.  But in this game, your neighbor might be forced to pass you a quarter.  Long story short, Lynne threw the dice for him for a couple of turns and wound up winning the pot!

Farewell
Friday morning it started to rain a bit.  That was all right since we were all heading home after meeting for coffee, muffins and sausage leftovers.  By the time the first boats left the rain stopped.  Some of us had short hops to Ladysmith, others had long multi-day trips to Bellingham and Pt. Townsend.  It was great to see everyone again.  See you at the November Dinner in Sidney.
